Check the watched folder

Confirm the file is inside the automation’s folder. For nested files, enable Include Subfolders. Enable Include Hidden Files if needed. Included aliases receive tags themselves; their targets are not followed.

Check monitoring and folder access

Keep Taggy Tagger running and make sure the automation is enabled. If folder access is missing, select the folder again in the app’s folder picker.

Use Play for existing files

Starting monitoring leaves existing files unchanged. Use Play to run one automation on matching existing files, or Run All for every automation in the folder, including paused ones. Neither action enables monitoring.

Check the rule and tag actions

Check that the file matches the rule’s conditions and that a workflow is assigned. Preview the condition set, then the workflow, to check the match and proposed tags.

Check that the file is available

Wait for downloads and file writes to finish. Download iCloud files to your Mac before tagging. Temporary files, symbolic links and files inside packages are excluded.

Check Activity for waiting or download errors. Once the file is available, use Play to try it again.

Check Activity results

Open Activity to see the result or error for the run. If no tags changed, the file may already have the intended tags. Use the error details to identify what needs fixing.

Still not working? Contact support with your app and macOS versions, the relevant rule and workflow, and any error message. Use example filenames if the originals contain private information.
