Example result with a Screenshots tag and the file’s creation month.

1Choose your screenshot folder

Add the folder where screenshots are saved, such as Desktop, and grant access. Create an automation for that folder.

2Match screenshot files

Create a condition set with File Type set to images and File Name beginning with Screenshot. Join them with AND. Use the prefix that appears in your own screenshot filenames.

3Add screenshot and month tags

Create a workflow with Add Tags for Screenshots. Add a Date Tag using Creation Date and yyyy-MM to generate a month tag such as 2026-10. Clear the prefix and suffix for that exact result.

4Preview the rule and tags

Preview the conditions with a screenshot and an image that should not match. Then preview the workflow on the screenshot and check the resulting tags. Previews leave files unchanged.

5Enable automatic tagging

Assign the condition set and workflow to your automation’s rule. Enable monitoring and keep Taggy Tagger running. New matching screenshots receive their tags automatically.

How the rule works

  • The rule matches image files by filename. It does not identify screenshots by their visual content.
  • If you change how screenshots are named, update the filename condition.
  • The month tag comes from the file’s creation date.
  • Use Play to tag matching screenshots already in the folder.
